Life of a Student Teacher: Surviving Challenges and Shining Bright
Hello, dear readers! It's been an eventful journey so far, and today marked a significant milestone in my student teaching adventure. I survived my first full day of teaching one complete class period, which might not sound like a lot, but it certainly felt like a big accomplishment. Let me walk you through the day, from teaching to feedback and some unexpected challenges.
Teaching One Full Block: A Major Milestone
Today, I took charge of an entire class period, and it felt like a noteworthy achievement. While it might not be a full day, handling one complete class is a substantial step forward in my journey as a student teacher. It allowed me to dive deeper into the teaching experience and take a more active role in shaping the students' learning.
I continued to lead the bell ringer activities and shared the heartwarming tale of "I, Cosmo" with all the classes. These moments are what make teaching truly special - the opportunity to ignite young minds and instill a love for learning.
The University Professor's Visit: An Important Review
My university professor paid a visit today to observe my teaching in action. Just like my experiences in the high school setting, she conducted a thorough review of my performance. Her feedback and suggestions were invaluable, offering a fresh perspective on my teaching methods. The review was constructive and highlighted areas where I could further improve my skills.
Challenges in the Morning Class: Lessons in Patience
However, not every moment in the classroom is smooth sailing. My morning class presented some unexpected challenges. Some students displayed disrespectful behavior, with one going so far as to tell me to "shut my mouth," resulting in disciplinary action that led to her removal from the classroom (though not by me). Another group of boys coined the term "dinglefries" as a way to address me, which, according to the internet, translates to "idiot." Yes, I understand they are only sixth graders, but it can be disheartening to be called something you don't even fully comprehend.
These challenges serve as a poignant reminder that teaching involves not just imparting knowledge but also nurturing respect and discipline in the classroom. Handling such situations is a learning experience for both students and educators.
Rising Above Challenges: A Bright Outlook
Despite the challenges, my university professor's overall review was positive, offering encouragement and acknowledging my progress. It's a testament to the rewarding aspects of teaching, where the moments of growth and the enthusiasm of students outweigh the difficulties.
As I reflect on the day, I'm reminded of the resiliency and patience required in the teaching profession. Challenges may arise, but they are opportunities for growth and learning. With the support of my mentors and the determination to make a positive impact, I look forward to each new day with optimism and the drive to inspire and guide the young minds in my care.
Stay tuned for more updates as my student teaching adventure continues to unfold, full of surprises, triumphs, and endless opportunities for growth.
